When it comes to beauty trends, there have been many, from egg white masks for tighter, firmer skin to the more crazy ones like bee venom for acne and inflammatory skin conditions.
There are also those people who have ventured into using snail secretions, or mucin, to help with tissue regeneration.
Now we may not all be on board with some of the above, but one trend I am willing to get behind is K-Beauty.
Want to know more? Read on.
What is K-Beauty?
K-Beauty is the skincare routine taking the globe by storm. It has skyrocketed Korea into prime position as number one in the skincare industry. But what is all the hype about anyway?
Let me start with a question – have you ever noticed how perfectly clear, smooth, and almost glass-like the skin of Korean women is? That is K-Beauty.
It is a skincare RITUAL as opposed to just a “routine” and sticking to this ritual and incorporating the products that these women use into your own beauty regimen could help you achieve a flawless complexion all your own.
The focus is on care products as opposed to cosmetics and they also emphasize a lot on hydration and keeping the skin healthy.
10 Steps is the new 3 steps
If you are a woman who takes care of her skin you are aware of the 3-step program that we have been told is the key to maintaining a healthy, youthful complexion.
However, K-Beauty has turned this notion on its head and it says, “10 steps is the new 3 steps”.
So are you ready to learn more about these steps? Here we go…
Step 1: Cleansing oil
Use a cleansing oil to remove makeup. Massage the oil into the skin and rinse off all impurities.
Step 2: Cleanse
Use a gentle foaming cleanser to clean the skin and wash off any last traces of makeup.
Step 3: Peel
Once a week you will treat your skin to a peel. A skin peel will lift off all the dead skin cells and help with cell regeneration (which is great for anti-aging)
Step 4: Tone
In this step, you will use a toner or refresher to help balance the pH of the skin and prepare it for the next care steps that follow.
Step 5: Essence
This step is one of the most important. The essence is a light moisturizing fluid that enhances cellular renewal in the deepest layers of the skin and leaves the skin smooth, radiant, and youthful-looking.
Step 6: Serum
The serum is very concentrated and has more active ingredients in it. You can get different serums for different skin concerns, from dehydration to eliminating fine lines and wrinkles.
Step 7: Sheet mask
A sheet mask is infused with active ingredients to address almost every skin need. It is also concentrated and absorbs really well. You leave it on for 15-20 minutes, then remove the sheet and massage the remaining product into the skin.
Step 8: Eye cream
The skin around the eyes is delicate and needs its own special attention. Most Korean eye creams contain collagen, so they are awesome for eliminating fine lines and wrinkles.
Step 9: Emulsion
Emulsion and cream are the last steps. Emulsion has a light lotion-like texture and is used to treat specific skin concerns.
Step 10: Cream
This is the final step in the Korean skincare ritual and this helps to nourish the skin and helps to provide the skin with moisture throughout the night so you can wake up to radiant and refreshed skin.
Now these may seem like extreme measures and like it could take a lot of time to complete – but it will be well worth the effort.
Have a look here at some products you may want to add to your basket next time you go shopping.
I hope that you have enjoyed learning about K-Beauty and how it can benefit you – I know I sure did.
Personally, I love the serums and essences, they always feel so good on the skin, and the essences are usually derived from plants, making them have a natural intoxicating fragrance.
Whether you choose to adopt this new trend or not – still make sure to take care of the skin you’re in, it is the only one you have.
